Thank you for your kind-hearted post!  Please refer to the attached link.  A few months ago, I made every effort possible to help this Aidpage member find alternative transportation to and from his Doctor’s appointments besides the Veterans bus.  Using this form of transportation takes about 3 to 4 hours roundtrip for each Doctor’s visit.  He has endured multiple skin grafts, which has made his skin highly sensitive.  Being in a sitting position for long periods of time causes damage to his skin.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get find him the help he needs.  Perhaps you can contact him directly in a one-to-one message to let him know about it.

Hi I've just about tried everything I know about so that's why I am now on here. We need help we live in Hawaii. And yes everyone from the mainland is usually like oh your in paradise. Yes and no. It's beautiful but when you have been born and raised here and have leaved always below poverty most of your childhood and now doing the same with your own children, the palm trees slowly disappear, and the colors in the sunset aren't so bright anymore. The cost of living over here is thee craziest. I keep hearing everyone talking about how expensive a gallon of gas is in the mainland, we are almost at 5.00 a gallon of REGULAR. And it has not been at 3. In over a year. For rent I paid 1250.00 for a two bedroom apt. And I thought that was a good deal. I soon moved with my father after that and together we payed 1475.00 for a 3 bedroom house and that was a steal. Will I guess what I'm trying to say is any kind of help anyone out there can help me with will be very very much appreciated. Just to tell everyone a little about my family, Im 27 year old single mother of 3 beautiful girls. I once had a great and perfect all American but in a Hawaiian kind of twist family. I had great credit a great husband, great kids, a great house that we where buying, great cars. Of course my husband left me and my kids for someone else, he was the provider so I lost my home to fore closer and my car got repo I basically lost everything but my children. Along with him leaving me I was also became a victim of violence from him I think because he new he had done wrong and really screwed up he took it out on me. Now three years later I'm still struggling I lost my job and now am on un-employment which is basically nothing. A whole $374.00 every Two weeks. I get food stamps and now that I am unemployed i have job searched and applied for finical through welfare. If anyone knows if another program or anything that could help with anything. Please god someone answer our prayers. Thank you and ALOHA

I have been looking for a decent paying job for along time. I'm starting to think that theres no other way but to go about this the wrong way, and I really dont want to think like that. Let me give you some background. I'm a female-to-male transgender (i was diagnosed with GID, which is known as Gender Identity Disorder) and i'm also a fulltime inline study (my major is Criminal Investigations). I suffer from anxiety, depression, and social issues. I cant the surgery that it takes too make me normal. I mean, I cant even afford the Testostone shots that i should have been on a few years back. I want this more than anything i have ever wanted in my entire life, and its no like i go around asking people for money. Thats not what this is about. Please dont get the wrong idea. I'm asking for help right now because it seems to be my only way to live a decent life. I want to get married and be normal. I dont want to walk around as a freak the rest of my life. So i'm begging you, please help me.

Personally, I do not have the finances to help. However, I can give you the name of an organization that may be able to assist.

        PROSPER.com

They handle loans for people who do not qualify for regular loans. I think they would be the best possible solution for your situation.

        Hi Wade,

I'm sorry to take so long to reply. I have been offline for a few days.

It seems as though you have a few things going on here.

If you have been harrassed/abused at work and are about to be fired because of your sexuality, you must know that you are protected by law. Either your opwn personal attorney can assist you or you can seek assistance with the EEOC or ACLU

If you are being harrassed or abused in your relationship. The Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project can help -  their # is : 800.832.1901

FAFSA can assist with financial aid and student loans for school. Also check with student services and the financial aid office on campus. You might want to check with fastweb for additional scholarship information.

Without a job, more likely than not, you will need a co-signer, UNLESS you go to a "buy here/pay here" shop. You will most likely pay more , but you may not need a cosigner. ONE THING I DO WANT TO STRESS HERE- have a mechanic you trust, inspect the car completely BEFORE you sign!!! If you do not know one, you can have carchex do it for you. It is a @ $120, but they will go to the car and thoroughly inspect it for you. While I know its a lot of money upfront, the fact of the matter is, if you buy used, you want to make sure of what you are getting. You certainly do not want to sign for your car, drive it off the lot and have your engine die on you. Know what you are buying! I hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else... best of luck to you!

I myself am about to get the axe. I'm gay and I've been hiding and been abused for far too long, I just applied to get a car today and I'll be in there for a while till I get a job, but is there any loans I can obtain without a co-signer? I'm staying in school the best I can and I really don't want to loose my education over my peace of mind...any suggestions?

        CRIME VICTIMS COMPENSATION

If you have been the victim of a crime , you may be entitled to compensation for unreimbursed out-of-pocket costs resulting from the commission of a violent crime.

Costs related directly to the crime can be reimbursed up to the maximum level in each state. The average maximum is $25,000, but a number of states have higher or lower maximums. In addition, there may be sub-limits on some types of benefits, such as mental health counseling or funeral costs.

The following expenses may be covered if they are not paid for a collateral source and if they resulted directly from the crime:

        1) Medical and hospital care, and dental work to repair injury to teeth.

        2) Mental health counseling.

        3) Lost earnings due to crime-related injuries.

        4) Loss of support for dependents of a deceased victim.

        5) Funeral and burial expenses.

Check with the specific state where the crime occurred to determine exactly what costs are covered by the program. Many can pay other types of expenses, though these vary from state to state.

        W H O K N E W,

Word often adds its own hidden code to the text that will not display correctly on the web.

We recommend using plain text editors like Notepad or Wordpad to prepare your text (you can save it on your computer while working). After that, simply copy/paste into the online box for posting. If you need formatting, adding of web links, or inserting of pictures, use the controls on the online box - they are designed to produce correct web coding.

        Hope this helps.

        Micah,

I am sorry everything was lost when you tried to post. It happens to all of us. What you can do is write it in WORD and copy and paste it in here.

But first you must know that you are NOT alone. We are here to listen and to help, if we can. There is help out there and it is possible to survive no matter what you are going through. You are NOT a Loser! You reached out for help, there is nothing wrong with that.  It takes great strength and great courage to do that.

If you think its fun for us to be here, maybe you are right. I get a huge relief knowing that people have found help on aidpage. It makes my day to know that someone found just what they needed. There is nothing more gratifying than to see someone succeed.

I can't begin to help, unless I know what you need. Please re-post your letter. There are many people here with a ton of information, and if we don't have it, we can usually find it.

Take a chance, one more time. You do not have to go through this alone.

I cannot afford to donate to anyone financially. However, I can offer some suggestions:

Apply for social security disability, social services, check with local churches, food pantries, salvation army, red cross, catholic charities and st vincent de paul in your area for immediate assistance.

VERY GOOD POST!Thank you. I do understand what you are saying. There are far too many people suffering needlessly.

I try to keep the information up to date - but to verify everything state by state is more than a full time job - and this does not pay my bills, my other job does, so I do what I can.

As for the non-profits out there, I am aware of what they are saying, but I am also aware that most have a surplus at the end of the year. That is what sickens me.

Multimillionaires - I know some give to organizations, which in turn, assist others ( some outside the US)  so the millionaires get their tax write offs. BUT what ticks me off are the BIG 3 - the car manufacturers who are getting a multiBILLION dollar bailout - that WE are paying for and they are STILL LAYING Off workers! And they got their golden parachutes! BUT they have yet to come up with a decent, energy efficient, afforable vehicle.

I am aware of the people who do not qualify for social services because they are $2 over the limit.

I am aware of people being told to separate from their spouse so they can qualify for services.

I am aware of drug addicts and alcoholics getting services and instead of them caring for their children, they get their next drink or their next high.

I am aware of the people working full time jobs and still do not make ends meet or do not have health care coverage.

I am aware of women going into porn and prostitution just to survive.

I am aware that children are being used and abused  and sometimes killed for no reason at all.

I am aware of the increased rate of homocides and suicides.

I am aware that the church - the biggest, richest boys club in the world - has all but turned it back on its followers.

I am aware that our government has committed deplorable crimes against the american people, but they feel they are above the law and simply do not care.

I am also sadly aware that some of the american people can be tossed out on the street by their employer, their landlord, or their bank, and all they seem to care about is getting little billy an XBOX or buying a pedigree puppy, because they feel that is what christmas is all about.

We, as a people, have lost sight of what is important. Not just at christmas, but as a whole. But that is just my opinion.

         in response to RLG...

First of all, your husband leaving is not the problem - how you react is.

Yes, it is devastating to lose a spouse, especially when it is unexpected. But widows get more compassion than ex-wives - it is just a fact of life. Him being gone is probably the best thing that can happen to you. Obviously if he wanted to be there, he wouldn't have left. If he stayed, you would have both been miserable and that is worse than being alone.

        First things first : INCOME

I'm guessing you are not working, so file for social services ( food stamps, medicaid, Liheap, TANF, etc - whatever you can, apply for it) While you are there explain your situation and that you need a pro bono attorney to file for separation and spousal support. ASK social services how to do this - or who you can go to for this - they should be able to assist you, if not ask to speak to a supervisor who may know.

        MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

You said you have medical coverage ( blue cross/blue shield) call blue cross and ask what mental health providers in your area are participating providers and they should give you a list. Call the physicians on the list and ask if they are accepting new patients - sorry but that is the only way to find a new physician. The good news is: most physicians do accept your insurance, however, your policy determines what type of coverage you have. If you do not have mental health coverage, there may be clinics in your area that provide this service on a sliding scale. This means they will charge you a certain fee according to your income.

        SPOUSAL SUPPORT

Your husband abandoned you. You didn't mention any children - therefore I am going to base my answer around strictly you. There are pro bono attorneys that can handle your separation and ultimately your divorce - you may even be able to have hubby cover the costs  of the divorce - this depends on many factors and ultimately the judge is the one who decides this.

When you file for separation with the courts make sure you are for the following: alimony/finalcial support, continued medical/dental coverage, payment of outstanding utilities/bills/mortgage/rent/etc., continued payment of any car payments & insurance policies - typically anything he normally paid while he was living with you - just because he left doesn't mean he leaves his financial responsibilities. He has a legal obligation to uphold and maintain your support if he has been doing so. But again, ultimately this is for a judge to decide.

I am not telling you this to deter you from seeking assistance, I am just trying to be honest. I will not lie to you, it is hard and it sucks. BUT there is no greater feeling than knowing that you can do it on your own. You can not only survive, but surpass every obstacle in your path to come out a better, more incredible woman than you are now! Believe me, you can do this! So get some much needed rest and tomorrow morning, after a good breakfast, go to social services, and start applying. Tomorrow is the first day of your new life!

For immediate assistance please go to your nearest food pantry. Explain your situation to them and ask if they know of any local resources. Also apply for unemploment and social services. I have all the links to national offices at the top of this page - they can help you locate your local office.
